Simple hyperplasia versus proliferative endometrium: stereological study

چکیده
unitermos abstract The diagnosis of some forms of hyperplastic endometrium continues to present difficulties for the practicing pathologist. One of the major problems is the lack of a standard terminology for endometrial classification. Therefore, morphometrical techniques could help the accurate diagnosis. Thirteen samples of endometrium with simple hyperplasia and thirteen samples of proliferative endometrium were analyzed by light microscopy and stereology. We determined the volume density, the surface density and the length density (Vv, Sv, Lv) of the glands (epithelium and lumen) and the stroma. Volume densities of the epithelium and lumen as well as the surface density of the inner perimeter of the glands were greater in simple hyperplasia than in proliferative endometrium (p < 0.05). But the volume density of the stroma was greater in proliferative endometrium than in simple hyperplasia (p < 0.05). The length density of the glands and the surface density of the outer perimeter were not different comparing these two groups. Present results agree with previous studies that have pointed out the importance of quantitative parameters in the diagnosis of the endometrial pathologies offering new stereological parameters to this analysis. Altered PTEN expression; a diagnostic marker for differentiating normal, hyperplastic and neoplastic endometrium
BACKGROUND Different molecular alterations have been described in endometrioid endometrial carcinoma (EECA). Among them the most frequently altered is loss of the PTEN protein, a tumor suppressor gene. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the expression pattern of PTEN gene in normal, hyperplastic and neoplastic endometrium. METHODS In a study in a referral gynecologic hospital in Tehran...

Background: Endometrial carcinoma is the most common malignancy of the female genital tract. Different molecular alterations have been described in endometrioid endometrial carcinoma that, the most frequently altered gene is mutations of PTEN. Up to 50-83% of endometrioid carcinoma reveal altered PTEN characterized by loss of expression. In endometrial hyperplasia, which are precursors of endom...
متن کاملImmunohistochemical analysis of CD44s and CD44v6 in endometriosis and adenomyosis : comparison with normal, hyperplastic, and malignant endometrium.
The expression patterns of CD44s and CD44v6 were immunohistochemically compared with those of normal, hyperplastic and malignant endometrium. In normal endometria (n=37), endometrioses (n=46) and adenomyoses (n=20), the surface and glandular epithelial cells were negative for CD44s and CD44v6 in a proliferative pattern and positive in a secretory pattern, whereas the stroma was only positive fo...

BACKGROUND Diagnosis of premalignant endometrial lesions is a major challenge to pathologists. The D-score system is more reproducible than the WHO scheme, however it is not widely available, this study attest a simple custom-made workstation for estimation of the "D-score". متن کاملMorphological Spectrum of Endometrium in Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding
Introduction: Dysfunctional uterine bleeding (DUB) is defined as increased abnormal endometrial bleeding unrelated to any anatomic lesions/ organic pathology of the genital tract [1]. It is a common problem in woman of reproductive age and about 20% of women affected will seek consultation [2]. Objectives: 1.To study morphological features of endometrium in DUB. 2.To correlate with age, parity ...
